You might remember him from the Comedy Festival. We put him under the spotlight. Recently seen on The Mighty Boosh and the Paramount Comedy Channel鈥檚 Dan Clark鈥檚 Guide to Series, Dan Clark is a fast rising star of stand up. Dan is returning to Edinburgh with a brand new show "Unfangled", a look at love in the digital age. Some of you caught it in Leicester on Thursday 12 July at the Firebug Bar. Introduce yourself?I hope you don't do that at parties. "Introduce yourself, I can't be bothered". My name is Dan Clark. I am a comedian.
Have you performed in Leicester much before?Yes. I played the Comedy Festival back in February. It was a very enjoyable show. And the audience were very great. Not sure how many were Leicesterians. But they seemed pretty comedy savvy. What's the idea behind this year's Edinburgh Show?Good question. It keeps changing. Originally I wanted to mirror last year's show, which was about my addiction to modern gadgets and technology, by writing a show about the things we take for granted now that we live in this newfangled techno world. But the theme keeps changing. It now seems to be more about "how does the newfangled world of communication - myspace, facebook, texting, emails - affect our relationships. And why is it just as hard to date, even though it's easier to contact people?" Who are your favourite comedians? Why? Do you remember the first time you heard/saw them?Well, growing up my hero was Rik Mayall. Then as I got into my teens it sort of turned to Fry and Laurie, Python and people like Bill Hicks, Peter Cook and Eddie Murphy etc. One of my current favourites is Demetri Martin. He's famous for his hour show's and the way he puts them together. But I first saw him do a late night gig, and even though he's quite whimsical and cerebral, he had an edge and was able to deal with hecklers. I like that combination. Steve Hughes is very good too - he can play rowdy clubs without having to dumb down. Without comedy you would be...?Enjoying nights indoors, in front of the telly. Best place to see comedy?Well, it's probably Edinburgh. That's where you will find every type of comedy on the planet. You get everything from basic observational comedy to a man on stage telling jokes through the medium of finger clicking. Why not, I've seen more bizarre. Which comedians/comic acts would you recommend? In Edinburgh and on the preview circuit? Well, Steve Hughes and Demetri Martin, obviously. Arnab Chanda is a brilliant new comic. As is Tim Key. Then there are your basic safe bets like Simon Amstell, John Bishop, Adam Bloom, Daniel Kitson, none of whom (or who?) will disappoint. last updated: 16/07/07 You are in: Leicester > Entertainment > Theatre and Arts > Features > Dan Clarke Q&A |
