Beating Student BoredomBy Anietie Isong, Guest Contributor Is being a student all work and no play? Here Leicester University's Student Union give a guide to beating the boredom with a line-up of events sure to bring the fun back into student life! Teacher and author Dr. Fritz Redl draws a correlation between boredom, frustration and rebellious opposition. With the rising tide of youth violence across the country, it has become imperative for institutions to initiate ingenious ways of killing boredom. The University of Leicester Students' Union has therefore lined up series of activities that will engage new and returning members at its Percy Gee Building. Chesney. What a legend. EventsLet Us Play is a night of eclectic dance music, and it will take place on the 02 October 2007 in the Lounge. On Thursday 05 October students can expect to be entertained with the latest chart tunes, funky house, dance anthems, Indie, Electro, R'n'B and drum and bass. Dirty Sanchez will also be in the Venue. "Heavyweights" Reverend and The Makers will bring their sound to students at the Venue on Saturday 06 October. On Wednesday 10 October Chesney Hawkes will be the guest musician at the Venue. The artiste's 'I am the One and only' has been dubbed as one of the biggest student anthems of all time. Golide, Killa Kella and Grooverider will all rock the Venue on Saturday 13 October. The Venue RegenerationTwo years ago, the University of Leicester Students' Union embarked on a large-scale redevelopment of its entertainments facility, The Venue, located in its Percy Gee Building. Ash James, Entertainments Manager of the union said the development has allowed the organisation to remain a high-quality venue for a variety of events in Leicester. But it is not all about music and dance; the University of Leicester Students' Union also set up Come And Try, a scheme that organises students’ trip to interesting venues and cities. This year, the union has already arranged travel to Alton Towers and a trip to Dublin. Aaron Porter, Academic Affairs Officer of the Students' Union founded Come And Try last year. The concourse of The Venue Student Experience"It's fantastic that students at the University of Leicester get the opportunity to balance study with fun." Aaron said. "The student experience is something we are continually striving to maintain and improve; there is a healthy balance between work and play that needs to be struck." As students prepare to return to the University of Leicester, they can be assured of a warm welcome by the Students' Union.
