A church in Leicestershire is asking you to take a pew...quite literally!

St Botolph's Church in Shepshed is auctioning off its wooden pews so that the church can be used in different ways.

The wooden pews on sale mostly date back to the Victorian era and are ornately directed on each end.

They vary in size from just four foot all the way up to 16 foot!

The vicar of St Botolph's, Cynthia Hebdon, says that pews limit what the church can be used for so they want to replace them with chairs:

"We want to use the church more in different ways.

"When the church was first laid out like this there was only one kind of service - now we need to look at different ways of worshipping for different people.

"Also to use the church more for the community use as well, we have concerts here and musical evenings and we just need that extra flexibility that chairs provide."

The auction is being held at St Botolph's Church on Churchgate in the heart of Shepshed. Viewing starts at 10:00 and the auction itself begins at midday.
