They say that charity begins at home but for one Leicester couple, romance听 began in a Leicestershire charity shop. Appropriately, it was the British Heart Foundation Shop at which their affair of the heart started.

"We realised we were both interested in gardening," says Barry, "and we ended up at the local Market Harborough gardening club in March two years ago. That became a social thing... We went out for a drink and realised we had a lot in common."

Barry and Val tell of love amongst the cast offs...

Barry maintains that he can't remember his first chat-up lines "... though I rehearsed a lot. She was quite surprised about me asking her out as she hadn't seen me in that light before."

Val is full of praise for Barry. "He is just such a lovely man. There is nothing to dislike about him... We went for a drink and talked and talked and didn't have enough time to say everything so we had to meet up again.

Back to Teenage Years

"We went for walks along the canals and through the beautiful countryside of Leicestershire.

"At the museum at Harringworth we were watching a film show and we held each other's hands. It took us back to our teenage years."

The first kiss came after the first meal Val cooked for Barry and from that all else followed. They are tying the knot before the end of the year.

Las Vegas or Harborough?

"We thought about various places," says Val. "Las Vegas... Gretna Green... Market Harborough."

Wherever the happy event takes place the bridesmaids will act as a reminder of how the happy couple met... they will all be dressed in clothes from the charity shop in Harborough where they found true love.
