StoryFormer Terms of Use
³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ StoryFormer Extra Terms of Use
1. These StoryFormer Extra Terms of Use along with the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Terms of Use [/usingthebbc/terms/] apply when you access and use ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ StoryFormer, a production tool for creating responsive and interactive stories.
2. StoryFormer is a new and experimental tool created and owned by the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳. You are welcome to test it but keep in mind StoryFormer is available ‘as-is’ and there are no warranties or support for it.
3. An interactive story created with StoryFormer can only be viewed on ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳’s StoryPlayer media player. The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ has no obligation to make available StoryPlayer or to publish any interactive story you create in StoryPlayer.
4. ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ may make changes to StoryFormer, or delete or suspend parts of it and any interactive stories that are created using StoryFormer without prior notification. Keep in mind that StoryFormer is experimental and the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ is likely to delete interactive stories every six months. If you want to keep your stories, make sure that you keep a copy on your personal device.
5. If you wish to delete your StoryFormer account and related data please send the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Connected Studio MakerBox team an email to makerbox@bbc.co.uk.
6. If there is an inconsistency between parts of these StoryFormer Extra Terms of Use with parts of the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Terms of Use, those parts of the StoryFormer Extra Terms of Use that are inconsistent override the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Terms of Use.
Who owns the interactive story that I create with StoryFormer?
7. When an interactive story is crated it combines your content with some ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ formats. You own the copyright in the interactive story you create with StoryFormer if what you create is completely new and original, but the copyright in the StoryFormer production tool and the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ formats will always belong to the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳.

What are the rules for creating interactive stories using StoryFormer?
9. You have permission (a non-exclusive, personal licence) to test StoryFormer and create interactive stories with it . Do not share your user name and password with anyone else.
10. The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ won’t pay you for an interactive story you create with StoryFormer.
11. Don’t use StoryFormer to create an interactive story that’s horrible, rude or illegal. The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Terms of Use for commenting and uploading also apply to interactive stories you create with StoryFormer.
12. You must comply with data protection law. Make sure that any interactive story you create doesn’t collect or share personal details of a user who views your interactive story. And if your interactive story has got another person in it (other than yourself), don’t collect or use information for your interactive story that might identify that person unless that person has permitted it and your use is permitted under data protection law.
13. Don’t use images or videos of other people in your interactive story without their permission.
14. Don’t use somebody else’s content (e.g. video clips or music) in your interactive story unless you have got their permission. Getting such permission may involve you paying a fee.
15. Don’t use StoryFormer in any way that may bring the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ into disrepute or breaks the law.
16. You must not copy, adapt, reverse engineer, de-compile, disassemble or modify StoryFormer.
17. Don’t use ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳’s name or logo. You need to ask for separate permission to do that.
What will the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ do with my interactive story?
18. The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ can review your interactive stories and use any feedback from you for any purpose with no restrictions. The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ will own all the intellectual property rights in anything it creates or improves based on this activity.
19. If ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ wishes to publish any interactive story created by you with StoryFormer, we will contact you to confirm you are okay with it.
Can I show my interactive story to others?
20. To watch your interactive story a user will need to install StoryPlayer on their device. StoryPlayer is a new and experimental media player created and owned by the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳. You are welcome to bundle it with your interactive StoryFormer stories, but keep in mind StoryPlayer is available ‘as-is’ and there are no warranties or support for it. You are permitted to bundle StoryPlayer to show others your interactive story only if:
a. you bundle StoryPlayer with an interactive story that you have created with StoryFormer. You may not use StoryPlayer for any other purpose. This means that you are not permitted to bundle an interactive story created by another person or any other material with StoryPlayer.
b. the interactive story that you bundle with StoryPlayer is of good quality, is in line with ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳’s Editorial Policy, complies with the law and does not have the potential to bring the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ into disrepute.
c. you do not use StoryPlayer for commercial purposes including things like promoting products, services, websites or events, sales and any other activity aimed at generating revenues or making a profit.
d. the StoryPlayer user doesn’t have to pay a fee to view your interactive story.
e. you don’t send StoryPlayer as unsolicited (junk) mail to anyone. For example, you are permitted to bundle your interactive story with StoryPlayer to showcase your interactive story to participants at a conference or exhibition but you cannot send it to everyone on a mailing list unless they’ve given permission for you to send it to them.
f. you do not embed StoryPlayer in any other technology, website, product or service. StoryPlayer can only be used to play your interactive story on a user’s device.
g. you do not imply that your interactive story was created by the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳, co-produced with the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ or endorsed by the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳. Remember that you cannot use the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳’s name or logo and the words ‘StoryFormer’ or ‘StoryPlayer’, without ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳’s written permission.
h. you do not remove any ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ information in StoryPlayer, including any copyright, trademark and terms of use.
i. You inform each person you show or invite to watch your interactive story that the player that’s bundled with your interactive story is experimental ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ technology and there are no warranties or support for it . You must also explain that the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ is not responsible for the content in the interactive story and if a StoryPlayer user has any concerns or complaint about the interactive story that they can contact you. You must also say that the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ is not liable for anything that goes wrong when using StoryPlayer.
j. you only make a copy of StoryPlayer when you bundle it with a copy of your interactive story so that you can show your interactive story to other people. You must not allow other people to copy StoryPlayer other than to install it on their device to play your interactive story.
k. you do not adapt, reverse engineer, de-compile, disassemble or modify StoryPlayer.
l. you do not use StoryPlayer to collect or share personal details of a user who views your interactive story.
m. You must notify the MakerBox team (makerbox@bbc.co.uk) as soon as you become aware of any legal issue that may affect the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳, such as intellectual property rights infringement of StoryFormer, StoryPlayer or your interactive story. Please also get in touch if you are unsure.
21. The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ may stop your permission to bundle StoryPlayer with your interactive story at any time for any reason at its sole discretion with immediate effect. If this happens you must immediately stop bundling StoryPlayer with your interactive stories and you must notify users who already have got StoryPlayer through you that they must stop using it too.
StoryFormer Privacy Notice
1. The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ collects and handles personal data that you upload to StoryFormer when creating your interactive story and when you give feedback on StoryFormer. StoryFormer is in the cloud provided by our service provider AWS on servers located in the EEA. Only authorised ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Connected Studio team members will have access to your interactive story material and personal data. The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ may review your interactive stories and use your personal data for the purpose of responding to your queries about StoryFormer, collecting your feedback on StoryFormer and asking you about publishing your interactive story. If there is any personal data in an interactive story you create you and the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ will both be independent data controllers of that personal data.

3. You must notify the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ MakerBox team (makerbox@bbc.co.uk) as soon as you become aware of any personal data concern (no later than within 24 hours) with a copy to ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Information Security (at information.security@bbc.co.uk) and ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Data Protection Officer (at dpa.officer@bbc.co.uk).
