Locum Destination Consulting is asking local people to add their ideas to their vision for regenerating the area.

The team says new housing, schools and 'inspiring' open spaces will be built, creating new job opportunities.

Felicity Goodey CBE, chair of Central Salford's Shadow Board, said the city will be a place "where anyone would feel proud to live".

Around 72,000 people live in the area known as central Salford, which includes Ordsall, Broughton, Langworthy, Kersal, Claremont and Weaste and Seedley.

Mrs Goodey said: "The world's finest architects, planners and regeneration professionals have been competing for a chance to work in the city because, they too, recognise Salford's incredible potential."

Wayne Hemingway, designer and chairman of Building for Life, said: "It shows that Salford is seen as a place with real potential to move onwards and upwards by the calibre of the teams bidding to work here.

"Sometimes you can sense when a place is on the ascendancy - Salford certainly is."

Danny in Salford needs to get a grip on reality, the War museum, Lowry and a large part of the quays were actually developed in conjunction with Trafford council and have nothing to do with Salford. Its a shame so much time and effort cannot be spend on the inner city areas of Salford that are largely no go areas.

It will be interesting to see how these largely depressed, inner city areas with large populations of unemployed people can attract 'international' architects and planners let alone the investment needed to bring the whole disjointed mess that is Salford together. If all its going to be is yet more luxury flats with associated bars and boutiques, ghettoising most people in these areas then I can see it being yet another exercise, where the needs and voices of the majority have been ignored in favour of councillors and developers. Just look at the new Middleton locks, the flats along Chapel Street, Trinity Quays and the number of new High rise blocks planned, none of them will benefit either the local communities or the local economy.

A complete waste of money and a waste of time. Thats why I left.

Danny - Salford
Salford is a superb place to live. I can safely this after 29 years of residing here! My whole life is in Salford鈥here is just something about this place that keeps me here. The Lowry, war museum the whole of the quays, are a testament to what this place can achieve. It鈥檚 a signpost to the rest of UK. The vision of its people will continue on until we will be the envy of every city in the UK.

Stuart Hall - Salford
As a Salford lad through an through, I think this is fantasic news. At last Salford is being transformed, like its neighbour Manchester. Let hope it is not ALL talk and it really does happen
