What can you tell us about the story of Press?
Press looks at the lives of two different groups of journalists living in contemporary, modern-day London, and explores both their personal and professional dilemmas and challenges that they face every day. It feels very timely: it explores a number of issues that we’re all aware of today in this changing industry and changing world. It’s also very human and looks at the different ethical and emotional crises that these characters face.

Describe Duncan and Holly’s relationship?
Press really puts at the forefront of the drama two characters: Holly, who is a young deputy news editor on a broadsheet and Duncan, who is the editor of a tabloid newspaper. They are both very different but fascinated by each other’s work and each other’s lives. Their paths will cross as the series develops.

Tell us about Mike Bartlett’s scripts.
Mike is one of the most engaging writers writing today in Britain. He’s got such a great handle on character. They are always so well observed, so funny and feel so utterly fresh. His scripts are real page turners - he never shies away from those big moments in life. It’s those big dramatic moments that are naturally really explosive, so you never quite know what’s coming. It’s always a joy to read one of his scripts. Mike explores the really interesting personal dilemmas of the characters and I think those are universal stories about how we balance our work and our personal lives – and how, in the end, we manage to find personal happiness.
