A new health centre which offers Torbay and south Devon residents diagnoses and treatments has seen more than 1,400 people since it opened in September, bosses say.

The NHS community diagnostic centre (CDC) in Market Street offers treatment for a range of conditions, including cancer, heart and lung disease.

The centre was freeing up teams at nearby Torbay Hospital to focus on more complex cases, as well as offering urgent and emergency care, NHS bosses said.

More than 40,000 diagnostic tests were expected to be carried out in the next year, they added.

The centre had been created to help speed up treatment, reduce waiting lists and give people access to tests in the town centre rather than visiting Torbay Hospital on the outskirts of Torquay, managers said.
