A man has been arrested after driving on the A1 at six times over the legal drink- drive limit.

Lincolnshire Police said they received reports of a car being driven erratically near Grantham on Sunday.

Officers located the car at Gonerby Moor service station.

The 38-year-old driver was taken into custody after failing to provide a roadside breath test.

In a test at a police station, he provided readings of 209 and 203 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

Lincolnshire Police has just launched its summer road safety campaign, which warns of the dangers of drink driving.

The force said on average 1,899 people were killed or seriously injured as a result of drink or drug driving in the UK every year.
