Woman fined for misusing blue badge

A woman has been fined 拢1,000 for using a disabled person's blue badge which did not belong to her.
Shropshire Council said Amy Tinkler, 35, from Telford, had used the badge to park on double yellow lines on Priory Road in Shrewsbury and then failed to hand the badge to a Civil Enforcement Officer for inspection when required to do so.
On top of the fines, Telford magistrates imposed a victim surcharge of 拢400 and ordered her to pay costs of 拢2,234.35.
Chris Schofield, the councillor responsible for regulatory services, said the misuse of blue badges threatened to put the scheme into disrepute.
He said: "The public who abide by parking restrictions will become disillusioned if they see parking controls designed to help being flouted and abused.鈥
Ms Tinkler was also ordered to return the blue badge.
