A prolific burglar who stole from businesses in Cambridge has been jailed after he was captured on CCTV.

Joe Ross, 33, of Hawkins Road, Cambridge, broke into the Sam Ping Oriental supermarket and the Indian Mini Market, both in High Street, Cherry Hinton, Cambridgeshire Police said.

The force said Ross also set off an alarm at a building site in Topper Street and took a bag containing machinery worth 拢2,500 - and broke into the Co-Op supermarket in Perne Road, Cambridge, on 13 September.

He was jailed for 13 months at Huntingdon Law Courts after he admitted three counts of burglary and one count of theft.

PC Craig Gallacher said: "These burglaries not only affect the businesses but also the local community.

"I hope this sentence is a firm reminder to anyone minded to commit crimes such as this that they are taken seriously by police and the courts"
