Two school buses have been involved in a crash, according to staff who reported 12 students remained at the scene to receive assessment from paramedics.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the B5476 between Shrewsbury and Wem at about 16:00 BST.

In a statement on social media, Thomas Adams School in Wem, which teaches pupils aged between 11 and 18, said the 12 were being checked as a "precaution" and there were no serious injuries.

West Midlands Ambulance Service later said all 12 were discharged at the scene.

In a statement issued at about 18:00 BST, the school stated: "The majority of children have now left [the scene] and are home bound.

"Twelve students remain and are being triaged by the ambulance service as a precaution."

The statement added the headteacher and four staff were at the scene supporting students.

"Coaches will transfer the remaining children home," it continued. "There are no serious injuries."
