Police arrested a man under the Explosives Act after a suspicious package was found in a vehicle parked near a police station.

Both High Wycombe police station and Buckinghamshire Council offices were evacuated, and St Mary's Street and Queen Victoria Road in the town were closed, after the discovery on Monday morning.

The package was examined and deemed to be "not of concern", Thames Valley Police said.

A man arrested in connection with the incident has since been released with no further action being taken, it said.

A theatre car park was within the cordoned-off area and police assisted drivers to safely move their vehicles.

The closed roads and offices in the town were reopened in the afternoon.

Posting about the incident on X, police said at the time: "A man has been arrested under the Explosives Act in connection with the incident.

"There is no indication that this is related to terrorism, but we are keeping an open mind."
