Man jailed for knife attack in front of children

A man has been jailed for a knife attack which took place in front of children on a city street.
Kieran O鈥橞rien, 37, was involved in an altercation outside his home in St Michael's Gate, Peterborough, at 17:25 GMT on 13 February, police said.
A man sustained slash injuries to his arm during the incident, which was captured on CCTV.
O'Brien admitted affray, possessing a knife in a public place and assaulting an emergency worker, and was jailed for a year and nine months.
Cambridgeshire Police praised a local resident who managed to tackle O'Brien to the ground and remove the weapon, which was later seized by officers.
The force said O鈥橞rien became violent towards officers while in custody.
He was handed a prison sentence at Huntingdon Law Courts on Thursday.
Det Con Thomas Adams, said: 鈥淭hankfully, CCTV captured the attack and I pay tribute to the bravery of the bystander who took the knife from him.
"O鈥橞rien is a danger to the public and I am pleased he is behind bars.
鈥淭ackling street-based violence is a force priority and we will continue to do all we can to take as many offensive weapons off the streets of Cambridgeshire as possible, as well as educating the public on the dangers and consequences of carrying such weapons.鈥
