A sexual health service has been recomissioned to help traveller communities, the homeless and those living with HIV.

Councillors have agreed to recommission the Integrated Sexual and Reproductive Health Treatment Services across Cambridgeshire County Council and Peterborough City Council.

Members of the council鈥檚 adults and health committee agreed the recommendation when they met on Thursday.

The agreement with the provider Cambridgeshire Community Services has a total value of 拢36,112,278 over six years.

Rates of sexually transmitted infections have increased nationally over the past few years.

The new service will also promote sexual and reproductive health prevention messages, run campaigns and other promotional activities.

Val Thomas, acting director of Public Health in Cambridgeshire, said: 鈥淚 am delighted that the committee has agreed to recommission this service.

鈥淭he service will play a key role in preventing the spread of sexually transmitted infections through offering access to prompt treatment alongside work to prevent infections and unplanned pregnancies.鈥
