Concerns about the safety of the scheme were raised by Castlefields Primary School

Plans to introduce traffic restrictions outside a primary school have been put on hold over concerns about knock-on effects.

The Castlefields school in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, was one of six chosen by Shropshire Council to pilot a scheme called "School Streets" this spring.

It will restrict traffic outside those schools to permit holders only at certain times.

But Rebecca Lee, head teacher of Castlefields Primary School, said she was worried the closures could lead to dangerous driving.

She said: 鈥淲e have recently seen unsafe driver behaviour on Highlands Road, at school pick up and drop off times, and worry that risks will increase with the displaced traffic, post-implementation, of the scheme, should it go ahead.

"The safeguarding of children and families is at the forefront of our thinking.鈥

The said the school's concerns had been discussed with council officers and as a result, the plan for Castlefields had been "paused" and it would be trialled at another school in Bridgnorth instead.
