People on Guernsey have been reminded about the rules of bonfires.

The Office of Environmental Health and Pollution Regulation said people could only have bonfires between 3 and 7 November, and they must be registered.

People who were hosting public or private firework displays were also being asked to submit event details on the government website, and private displays should be held on Tuesday 5 November, officials said.

Tobin Cook, director of Environmental Health and Pollution Regulation, said registering was important to "differentiate between a bonfire and someone just taking the opportunity to burn waste".
