Two armed response officers helped provide life-saving medical care after two men suffered cardiac arrest in East Sussex.

The police officers were called over concerns for two unconscious men at Eastbourne Pier at 12:30 BST on Tuesday.

Both officers assisted the South East Coast Ambulance Service with CPR, which helped bring the patients out of unconsciousness.

Insp Oli Fisher said: 鈥淭he officers demonstrated great professionalism at a difficult scene, and it was even more remarkable for the work they had completed only minutes before.鈥

About 15 minutes prior, the officers had seized a vehicle that led to the arrest of a wanted drug dealing suspect for a separate incident in Grand Parade.

Insp Fisher said the emergency medical care armed response officers provide frequently saved lives.

鈥淥ur firearms officers are not only highly trained in armed response, but also have enhanced first aid skills,鈥 he said.

鈥淭his incident, as with others, shows the important public safety role our firearms officers carry out.鈥

The two men were left in the care of the ambulance service.
