Construction work starts on Skye harbour upgrade
Construction work has started on a community-led upgrade of a harbour in the north of Skye.
A new hardstanding area, costing 拢135,000, is being created at Staffin Harbour, which will provide space for vessels to be lifted ashore for storage and maintenance.
Seven new business units are also being created, alongside space for an office, toilets, parking and fuel facilities, which are to be delivered in a later phase.
The work forms part of the wider multi-million pound project, driven by Staffin Community Trust, which will deliver a new breakwater to provide better protection for vessels.
The current works are anticipated to last 10 weeks, with local contractors employed and material sourced from the nearby Lealt Quarry.
