Four women were helped by firefighters after the car in which they were travelling was swept away from a flooded ford and into a nearby river.

All occupants managed to get out of the River Rhea safely before firefighters arrived at the scene in Neen Savage, Shropshire.

Firefighters from Cleobury Mortimer and Bridgnorth attended after two emergency calls were received at about 10:15 BST on Sunday.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said the vehicle was found to be "50% submerged" in the water.

The women were taken back to Cleobury Fire Station to warm up where they were collected by family and friends, the service said.

A spokesperson added heavy rainfall could cause fords to become deep and water to be fast-flowing so drivers needed to remain cautious about entering.

Fire crews said they posted the picture on social media so people knew the occupants were safe and checks were not needed.
