Two swans have been killed and 10 injured in air gun and slingshot attacks on the River Thames.

The birds were attacked between 24 and 27 January near Windsor Castle, Thames Valley Police said.

Several of the animals to survive the shootings had been left "severely injured", the force said.

Investigating officer PC Les Jones said: "These are very distressing incidents in which defenceless animals have clearly been targeted."
