Dorset Council said it needed to recruit staff in waste collection and care

A council has launched a private company to supply itself with temporary workers.

Dorset Council is the sixth local authority to set up an agency with Commercial Services Group (CSG), a firm owned by Kent County Council.

The joint venture, named Connect2 Dorset, will provide staff in areas such as waste collection and care.

The partners said it would fill vacancies "in a more sustainable and cost-effective way".

CSG has previously launched staff agencies with the authorities for Dudley, Kent, Hampshire, Luton and Surrey.

Dorset Council director Aidan Dunn said: "Connect2Dorset is about helping Dorset Council better meet our current and future workforce challenges."

The council did not give details of its financial arrangement with CSG.

Previously, Luton Borough Council enjoyed higher-than-expected, six-figure savings from its joint recruitment agency, according to the Local Government Association (LGA).

The agency was set up with a loan from CSG, .
