Carrickfergus crash: Girl, eight, dies and another child is taken to hospital
An eight-year-old girl has died following a crash in Carrickfergus, County Antrim.
She was Scarlett Rossborough, from the Larne area.
The single-vehicle collision in the High Street area was reported at about 11:40 BST on Wednesday.
A second child, a boy, was taken to The Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children by ambulance. Police said his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The air ambulance attended the incident, as well as police officers and staff from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.
The ambulance service said it received a 999 call following reports of a traffic accident in the High Street area.
'Overwhelming grief'
It is understood a group of children were on an outing when the incident happened.
Ulster Unionist Party MLA for the area John Stewart said it was a tragic event for the community.
"We are dealing with the overwhelming grief. We have the loss of a child and another in hospital," he told 成人论坛 News NI.
"Our thoughts are with the families of those involved."
High Street in Carrickfergus was closed for a number of hours after the crash but it has since reopened to traffic.
