Video-sharing platform, YouTube, has said it will now ban dangerous pranks and challenges from their website.

In April 2018, YouTube promised to work harder to remove upsetting videos that had been published.

But a report by media outlet Buzzfeed found that YouTube was still allowing lots of harmful and dangerous videos on their website - some of which had millions of views.

YouTube has now announced stricter guidelines on what will be allowed on the site.

Recently, there has been more attention on the number of unsafe pranks posted on YouTube, some of which have caused severe injuries.

"Our Community Guidelines prohibit content that encourages dangerous activities that are likely to result in serious harm, and today clarifying what this means for dangerous challenges and pranks," the company said in a statement in the Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ - section of their website.

"Content that features a child participating in dangerous challenges that pose an imminent risk of injury or bodily harm are also not allowed on YouTube."

"We also don't allow pranks that lead victims to believe they are in physical danger or that can cause real physical harm."

"Dangerous or abusive pranks that may cause emotional distress to children are not allowed."

The company says it will work over the next two months to remove dangerous videos from the site.
