Jude Bellingham has signed for Real Madrid for 103m euros (£88.5m).

The 19-year-old will leave his current club Borussia Dortmund to join the Spanish giants for a six-year deal.

He started his career at Birmingham City and on Thursday Real Madrid will present him as a player.

Bellingham was one of the big stars of England's 2022 World Cup campaign, he was named Bundesliga's player of the season and made history at Dortmund becoming the club's youngest captain aged 19.

The Spanish side paid 103m euros for Bellingham, but there is also potential for add-ons which mean the deal could reach 133.9m euros (£115m).

1. Birmingham's youngest ever player

Bellingham joined his hometown club, Birmingham, as an eight year old and became the club's youngest ever player at just 16 years and 38 days old.

In doing so, he broke a 49 year old record, held by a player called Trevor Francis.

In his first season as a professional, Bellingham became a key player for Birmingham, playing 44 times in centre midfield.

He started playing for England at Under-15 level and he's been playing for club and country ever since.

2. Most expensive 17-year-old of all time

Bellingham's performances attracted interest from some of the biggest teams in the world, and he was tipped to join Manchester United.

However, he decided to sign for German side, Borussia Dortmund, due to their development of fellow English youngster, Jadon Sancho.

Dortmund paid £25 million for Bellingham, which is the biggest ever transfer fee for a 17-year-old.

He became the youngest footballer ever to play in a Champions League quarter final during Dortmund's 2-1 defeat to Man City in 2021.

He's one of the most gifted players I have ever seen... I think he will be the best midfielder in the world.

3. Retiring the shirt

When Bellingham left for Dortmund, Birmingham made the surprising move to retire his shirt number - 22 - meaning it could never be used again.

This is a symbolic gesture usually reserved for players who have been club legends and have either retired or died.

Birmingham said the move was to "remember one of our own and to inspire others". He is certainly doing that!

4. Breaking records

Bellingham has been breaking records throughout his career so far.

He was Dortmund's youngest ever scorer, he's England's third youngest ever player and he's the youngest Englishman to ever play in the Champions League.

The only English teenager to have scored in four consecutive Champions League games, lots of experts have compared him to England and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard due to the way he plays the game in midfield.

His goal against Iran made him only the second teenager to score for England at a World Cup behind an 18-year-old Michael Owen in 1998.

As he set up Jordan Henderson's opener against Senegal, he also become the first teenager for any nation to get a goal assist in a World Cup knockout stage game, since records began.

England manager Gareth Southgate discusses tactics before Bellingham makes a substitute appearance for England v Croatia at Euro 2020

England manager Gareth Southgate named Bellingham in England's senior squad for Euro 2020 Championships. This was his first opportunity to impress in the big matches.

His 82nd-minute substitute appearance vs Croatia at the tournament made him the youngest of any nationality to play at a European Championship, at 17 years and 349 days.

After his amazing performances at the World Cup in Qatar, it seems we can expect to see more of him as the England national side begin their qualifiers for Euro 2024.
