Springwatch weekend comes to Whitlingham

Spend an afternoon at Whitlingham Country Park with the RSPB, 成人论坛 Radio Norfolk and the Norfolk Library service as part of the 成人论坛's Springwatch weekend on Sunday 4 June, 2006.

Springwatch's Bill Oddie, Kate Humble and Simon King return to 成人论坛 Television at the end of May, with three weeks of live wildlife reports from around the country.

The programme was a huge hit in 2005, so as part of this year's campaign, the 成人论坛 is hosting a number of events across the UK to help inspire people about the wildlife in their area.

In Norfolk, you're invited to spend an afternoon at Whitlingham Country Park on the outskirts of Norwich.

"The Springwatch programme has really inspired people. This year it's great to be able to organise a number of events in addition to what people can see on the TV and online," said 成人论坛 Springwatch event producer Lynne Wilson.

"At the event we'll also have lots of information about 成人论坛's Breathing Places project too, so do come along and find out more about how you can get involved," she added.

Family adventures

The whole family is invited to come along to the Whitlingham event to find out what they can do to help nature: from bird box building and pond dipping, to wildflower planting.

Visitors to the park can also take the 成人论坛 Norfolk Walks Through Time, created especially for the epic 成人论坛 series The British Isles: A Natural History presented by Alan Titchmarsh.

"The event at Whitlingham Park is a lovely opportunity to spend an afternoon with the family enjoying the Norfolk countryside and finding out more about birds and wildlife," said event co-ordinator Kate Blincoe from the RSPB.

Whilst at Whitlingham, you can also learn how to build homes for wildlife, spot birds and take part in the Springwatch swap - an opportunity to create a Breathing Place for people and wildlife.

To join in, just bring along any spare plants from your garden, secondhand wildlife or gardening books, or unused wildlife features (such as feeders, nest boxes or ladybird homes).

You can then swap these for something of similar value and receive a free information pack about gardening for wildlife.

Visitors to the park on Sunday 4 June, 2006 can also enjoy storytelling from Norfolk Libraries and hear from local experts.

成人论坛 Radio Norfolk's Maggie Secker will broadcast live from the park between 1400-1600 BST. Admission is free and the event runs from 1200-1700 BST.

Go Wild At Barton Broad

In addition to the Springwatch event at Whitlingham, you can also enjoy a family day at Barton Broad when the Norfolk Wildlife Trust and Broads Authority invite you to get closer to Norfolk nature.

Try pond dipping, build a bug hotel, learn how to make butterfly feeders, bat boxes and if you're feeling really adventurous then you could even try your hand at canoeing.

Just follow the signs to the Barton Turf Adventure Centre near Neatishead.
