FaithYou are in: Norfolk > Faith > Divine Art: Spiritual power Zacron in his gallery Divine Art: Spiritual powerBy Zacron Multi-media artist Zacron, from south Norfolk, is renowned for designing the Led Zeppelin III album cover. Here, he tells us what divinity in art means to him and explains the spiritual inspiration behind three pieces of his work. Art as human ecology has a spiritual power beyond current understanding. In hijacking the post-adolescent need for change and self-assertion, current post-modern art education operates through a fashion dictatorship that denies the cultural layering of history and true creative freedom.
Help playing audio/video Art is not a subject but a humanity; its rightful place is at the very centre of education as a creative hub, from primary to degree level and beyond. Nearer To Heaven by Zacron (detail) Tutors participating in such a scheme will need to believe in equal opportunity, regardless of gender, race or religious belief.Ìý It is seldom fully understood that art goes beyond self-indulgence and anarchy.Ìý Arts makes us wholeArt expands awareness, breadth of learning, a sense of self-value and most of all, an ability to project beyond ourselves. Visual language has a power beyond fashion. Art communicates not just ideas and expression but statements about human need, injustice and suffering, while being a force for peace and human understanding. Ultimately, art impels us towards a whole-world consciousness. By extending beyond the self, art has the capacity to be a spiritual 'diviner'. The divinity of artArt can only be thought 'divine' if we recognise that what we make is part of ourselves just as we are all a part of the universe. Astoundingly, even the product of our minds may be part of an ultimate universal purpose; part of the power that originated the universe or multi-universe. Our prehistoric concept of 'painter-priest' is inevitably linked with an emerging sense of our cosmic link through time - diminished by the growth of self-focused greed. The introduction of magic and our interpretation of natural signs may seem to empower our cosmic connection.Ìý To claim to be a deity, to have control of divinity, is to put an artist or indeed anyone in the position of being the 'maker' or an appointed administrator-activist that 'is' the maker.Ìý Jesus, conscious of his own imperfection, I have come to learn from those who have travelled the 'time-line', 'is' one of many messengers (Cosmic Voyage, Courtney Brown - ISBN 0-340-69579-X).Ìý Scepticism of what's beyondI feel myself to be an updated Leonardo, compelled to learn without limit. Both our inner and outer worlds present endless questions.Ìý I observe in modern society an extreme scepticism towards information beyond the physical, beyond our minute planet.Ìý Moon Woman by Zacron (detail) Much of art today seeks a manifestation of physical expendability. The desire to shock is often an expression of insecurity; a fear that the spirit is greater than the body it occupies.Ìý In addition, we may be a unified part of a greater life force; part of each other, through all of time, a part of other beings in the greater universe. We can no more claim ownership of a greater power through sectarian religions than claim ownership of territories in space.Ìý Our diminished spirituality is revealed in our desire to explore profanity and hopelessness. We are easily gratified by the suffering of others and mock spirituality.Ìý In humanitarian terms, art requires its administration to shepherd, without prejudice; to maintain an open brief that art may be linked to all life skills. Explorations, both physical and metaphysical, pragmatic or visionary, have a role in the vast arts' menu.Ìý Through art, creative people often act as an advanced guard sensitive to the plight of humanity. Creativity and ecology must be more highly valued in the future if we are to survive. Global interaction essentialGlobal interaction operating beyond religious differences will have to come for the human race to continue. The big picture is multi-national. Creative innovators will pioneer the geospheres, mining and terraforming in our future environment. The human race, with a strong understanding of spirituality and its vital role in the universe, has a future.
One love, one peace, one chance to share our world. Zacron 2007 from Art Is Human Ecology.last updated: 21/04/2008 at 15:15
