Bronia Buchanan still has family here

Take That from Norwich theatre producer

A Norwich woman is about to pick up her first West End producing credit when the curtain is raised on a musical based on boy band revivalists Take That. Never Forget has been developed by Bronia Buchanan, who was brought up in the city.

Take That have blossomed from boy band pin-ups to pop's elder statesmen, with their resurgence and the popularity of their hits now paid the ultimate compliment of being adapted for the West End stage.

Following in the dance steps of evergreen favourites Abba and Queen, Take That are the latest band to have their songs strung into a new multi-million pound musical, Never Forget, which has a Norwich-born producer at its helm.

Bronia Buchanan grew up in the city, where she attended the Norwich City For Girls before going to the Central School Of Dancing in Norwich, where she was head girl.

After graduating from Surrey University, she took up a career in theatre production.

However, until now, Bronia has been better known as one of London's leading theatrical agents looking after 300 clients, but her name is about to become as well-known in close-knit theatre circles for her first time work as a producer.

The curtain goes up on the show at London's Savoy Theatre on 7 May, 2008 following its nationwide tour last year when it played to more than 100,000 people.

Return to roots

Despite her hectic workload, Bronia still finds the time to return to her native county.

"I still come back to Norfolk regularly - I still have a lot of my family living there," said Bronia, who made her first stage appearance at Norwich Theatre Royal when she was seven.

As someone who has made their way to the top in the competitive theatre world, Bronia credits both her school and dance studio as helping her to thrive.

She said: "I had incredible support from both the school and also from the dancing school - the Central School Of Dancing in Norwich - who have been incredibly supportive and again of this project.

"Charlotte Corbett, the principal, came up to our opening night in Manchester and was dancing the night away with the rest of the audience who were on their feet that evening."

Bronia began developing the musical in 2003, and has worked closely with her co-producer Tristan Baker and writer Danny Brocklehurst, who created the story and has worked on Shameless and Clocking Off.

Tribute band

The show - billed as a feel-good comedy - is set in Manchester and will tell the story of five guys in a tribute band trying to re-tread the steps of Take That's own path to stardom.

The musical will feature the pop group's string of '90s hits including Never Forget, Relight My Fire, Pray and Back For Good.

Bronia said: "We take the songs, very similar to Mamma Mia, in the respect that the boys have their own story within the show and those songs are carefully woven to tell a new and original story, taking elements from Take That's real life and weaving it in, so it's a comedy and for all the family."
