A ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Big Screen has been given the go-ahead to be installed above the entrance to Chapelfield shopping centre in Norwich. Norwich City councillors gave the scheme the stamp of approval at a planning meeting on Thursday, 31 July, 2008. The screen will be the latest addition to a country-wide network, with big cities including Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham already having their own facility. The giant screen will measure 25 sq metres and will be the only one in the East of England. It will show films and programmes made across the county as well as coverage of arts and local events, the news headlines and weather forecasts. The screen will also air TV shows and form an important part of the Olympic Games handover celebrations in Norwich on 24 August, 2008. William Jenkyns, from ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Big Screens, said after the decision had been approved that the project in Norwich had been a joint effort. "The screen is a partnership," he said. "It's not just something that the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ has done; it's not just something that the council has done - it's something that actually none of those organisations on their own could do but what we have to do is join together to say, 'Right let's put that up there,' so we all have a vested interest." last updated: 08/08/2008 at 18:53 SEE ALSOYou are in: Norfolk > Big Screen > ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Big Screen for Norwich
