Electric
Blanket Safety Checks
New v second hand
Always buy new. Ensure that the blanket is CE marked and always
buy a well known make from a reputable retailer.
Staying
safe
If your blanket is over ten
years old or if it shows signs of wear and tear (such as scorch
marks, loose connections or fraying) then buy a new one.
Get
it right: Always follow the instructions.
Underblankets: Older underblankets, designed for pre-heating
only, must be switched off and disconnected before you get
into bed.
Make
sure the blanket is kept flat - can you tie it to the mattress?
Never use an underblanket as an overblanket and never use
the blanket if it is wet, creased or badly wrinkled.
Never,
ever switch on a blanket
to dry it out.
Storing
Underblankets can be left on the bed all year round. Overblankets
will need to be stored for summer by rolling (or folding with
as few folds as possible) and keeping in a dry place, with
nothing heavy stored on top, such as other bedding.
Consider
using a spare bed for summer electric blanket storage (just
make sure it stays dry and flat). Sweet dreams!
