King's Lynn
Custom House |
King's
Lynn is one of my favourite
places. I used to stay in Friar's Street, and there was a lovely
fish and chip shop nearby, in which the lady I stayed with worked
part-time.
I loved the
warehouses, where there were always lovely smells in聽 the air, I
think it was coffee but it could have been any exotic spice in those
far off days.
I also remember
the Custom House and the ferry to West Lynn. Also visiting other
places such as Hunstanton where we enjoyed the beach and looking
at the stratified coloured cliffs surrounded by greenery.
Sandringham
and South Wootton
Another place
was Sandringham the country home of the Queen . I remember that
the main gates were a wedding present to King Edward the VII, given
by Norwich City.
Bluebells
|
Every year we
went to Wootton Woods, amazed by the amount of fields of bluebells
which we also picked.
I vaguely remember
picking primroses as well but that may not have been at South Wootton.
A favourite
time was going to the market place, and going to all the stalls.
The last thing I bought there, was a battery gas lighter for the
lady in Friar's Street to light her gas stove easily.
My husband had
family there so we used to stay with them, and we went as single
friends, and later after the war聽 when we had married and had children
we used to take them there as well.聽
My husband
still has a few relatives who live in King's Lynn. Of course we
only hear from them by mail now.
Sincerely,
Marj Busby, South Australia
