Caring
听
Should older people have the right to say they want to be cared for at home, when they can't look after themselves any more? Pat told Sarah Brett what happened when he was caught up in that very situation himself, after the health of his mother-in-law deteriorated.
The issue arose after one MLA, Mary Bradley, suggested that the Western Trust had run out of money for care packages for elderly people in their own home. The Western Trust says that it is currently "overspent" on its 拢22m budget for this. It says that there is a finite resource and they have an assessment process which is used to make sure that those who are most in need receive care. Sometimes people can be admitted to hospital and that releases money for others to be cared for.
