"Don't worry, he'll never see the front" - Elizabeth Warke was given words of reassurance when she went to complain that her youngest son, 16 year old Samuel, had gone to Castle Street in Derry to sign up for the army. Three weeks before the end of the war he was dead. The war also claimed the lives of his brothers, Martin, Bobby, and Jasper.
