Underneath the castle there are many man-made caves
and tunnels, some of which are medieval.
Many of these caves and tunnels have been blocked up but this is one
remains. It runs from the castle's Eastern Terrace to the base of
castle rock.
The tunnel may have been used to sneak lovers into the castle grounds
under the cover of darkness but its main use is likely to have been
for bringing supplies up to the castle.
