Navaratri is
one of the most important Hindu festivals.
It lasts nine
days and nine nights. The word "Navaratri" actually means nine (Nava)
nights (ratri).
Dipak Joshi
reports on how it will be celebrated in Nottinghamshire.
Navaratri is remembered in different ways throughout East Midlands
as a celebration of all things Indian.
It's a very colourful celebration with traditional dresses. Chaniya
Choli (Women) and Salwar Kamiz (Men) are popular clothes worn around
the Midlands.
Navaratri attracts
people from a cross section of the community. We can see cultural
diversity visually in the celebration.

This year top
folk singer Praful Dave from Gujarat state is coming to Nottingham
for the festival.
Praful Dave is
known as the finest performer of traditional Gujarati folk music.
He's reached a wide audience all over the world, both young and
old, through his renditions of the rich and varied Gujarati songs.
His beautiful
and characteristic voice is reminiscent of bygone times - yet his
music is contemporary, accentuated by hypnotic rhythms and the virtuosi
accompaniment of his fellow musicians.
