What
are your memories of growing up?
I was educated at Heanor Grammar School, then went on to train
as a secretary at Boots Pure Drug Co. They actually recruited
from school and paid several of us whilst we trained. We also
had day release at College for one day per week and I did much
better with my studies there than at school.

Growing up
in Ilkeston I went to the Church at Cotmanhay 'tin tabernacle'
and became a Sunday School teacher in my teens and joined the
Girl Guides that was fun and educational. I still do the reef
knot chant when tying up something.
The dances there in the evening were on Friday night-ballroom
was in at the time. Tennis was another favourite pastime and the
local courts were great and just at the bottom of our street -
Beauvale Drive.
I always had my head buried in a book when not playing tennis
and dancing -I had a great life with good parents.
Where exactly do you live now?
We moved to New Zealand in 1964. [more...]
Apart from the obvious - the weather is so much better than England
- and in fact the reason we first came out here - its freedom
of the mind - no class system and you can be and do anything you
want if you apply yourself.
How did you find yourself in New Zealand?
The decision occurred when my husband was up a ladder.

How far is the closest town?
About five minutes away. [more...]
It's not crowded - our food is the best in the world and we still
have real milk and cream in our cafes not those plastic containers
of long life rubbish.
Is it very English?
Yes and no. [more...]
We do not have any snakes or creatures to harm us in our bush
(and we live in 2 1/2 acres of it)We can be in close touch with
our Politicians . As you can see we are happy here.
What do you miss about Nottingham?
Our friends and family. [more...]
Our son is in London and has been for three years and that is
the only reason I would come back for another visit.
We
have been back to England twice thoroughly enjoyed it in 1990
but not so happy in 1998.
However the move was the correct one for us and we have never
regretted it.
I will keep looking at the board in case I recognise any writers.
