Black History Season - Magical Storytelling
Bunny Neil

Bunny Neil

A special event was held on November 30th at the African Caribbean Family and Friends centre - Hyson Green to celebrate Black History Season.

Over 200 seven to eleven-year-olds from the local Inner city Schools attended the event and were entertained by magicians, musicians and storytellers.

The ' Magical Storytelling Event' had an African American / African Caribbean perspective and was led by Bunny Neil.

In action

Bunny has been practising magic and escapology for over 30 years and is the only African Caribbean man in the UK to have received a Gold Star from the Inner magic circle (A higher commendation than Paul Daniels has).

Bunny was famous in his hey day for being handcuffed at the wrist and ankle and placed in a sack which was then placed in to crate, that was then nailed and lowered in to the sea. Then.... yes you've guessed it , he had to escape from this watery chamber!

Bunny Neill managed to grab the children's complete and undivided attention through his trickery and storytelling.

As he told a story about a donkey that needed a good strong rope to tether him safety he cut a rope in at least three places , and then he magically joined it all back together again before our very eyes!

He produced glittery snow from a piece of black tissue paper, and joined sliver hoops together just by rubbing them! The children loved it, and so did the teachers!

Freddie Kofi taught the children an African song about Harvest and Panaya Banjoko told some very funny stories including a rhyme about Grandads Walking stick that had the children listening and laughing.

Auntie Mack and Jabbai rounded off the day with more stories and real African Drumming.

成人论坛 Community Affairs researcher Helen Cockle organised the event and was delighted with the positive response that she received from all the teachers and children that attended.
