J-Gold, aka Jermaine Golding, is from Basford.

"I class myself more as an artist. I did start off rapping but I write songs, I write poetry...

Self-taught

Jermaine says he's been into music since he was little.

He attended City Technology College in Nottingham and it was here that one of his teachers told him he should get into rapping.

"I used to sing but my voice broke and I couldn't reach those high notes anymore."

Jermaine started writing raps, influenced by the music of Tu Pac and Biggie Smalls.

Over his nine years on the local music scene he's worked with Out The Ville and linked up with other local legends Black Viking, Kamikazi and Law.

He's performed at The Bomb, Rock City, the Marcus Garvey Centre and has supported several multi-million record selling artists in Nottingham.

Like The Beatles, Jermaine is not musically trained.

"If you can feel the music, if you can hear it in your head, you can find the keys on the piano."

Adele remix

Jermaine also produces music. He was recently given a dubstep version of Adele's Hometown Glory and couldn't resist doing something with it.

"I heard it, I liked it straight away and I thought I could do something with this. I got in contact with the producer [of the dubstep]. He loved it. From there I just put it out."
