Is Robert
De Niro turning into a bus shocker! After all, you wait ages
for one of his films and then two come in consecutive weeks.

"Don't
look at me. I haven't got the tokens." |
Sadly,
they don't have the quality to be deemed a five star winner.
They're not bad (last weeks offering was 15
Minutes) but they're not great.
Men of
Honour is the true story of Carl Brashear (Gooding Jr). A
quality swimmer, he manages to overcome racial prejudice and
move from being a farmer's son to the first African-American
US Navy diver.

"So
let's get this straight. No one has seen the tokens?"
|
De Niro
is the over-the-top head of the diving team. He shouts a lot,
drinks a lot and hits his wife a lot.
It's not
a subtle performance.
Having
said that, director Tillman Jr has shot the movie beautifully.
He builds tension, uses music intelligently and produces some
lump-in-the-throat moments.
However,
despite it being based on a true story, you can't help thinking
you've seen it all before.
