With the Malaysian
prime minister cracking down on sweatshops, the fashion industry
fears for it's fat profits and decides that something must be done.
The fashion
world is run like an international terror organisation, and orders
the PM to be killed - Rather than choose a professional hit-man
they decide to brainwash some poor maluable and vaccous sap - Fitting
the bill perfectly is the
self absorbed top model Derek Zoolander (Stiller).
Zoolander is
in crisis himself - a premiere male model, his time at the top is
coming to an end thanks to rising blond bombshell Hansel (Wilson)
- now he's trying to figure out whether there's more to life than
"being really, really, really good looking".

If you can imagine
Austin Powers as a fashion model rather than international man of
mystery then you'll start to get a feeling for the film.
Dumb and dumber
Zoolander and rival Hansel pour on the one-liners as they gaff their
way through, trying to stop the murder attempt. Although the film
is based around the singular joke that all models are thick, it
does manage to keep the gag going for the full 90 minutes.
The most enjoyable
performance is from Wilson, who plays it straight as the extreme
sports-loving Hansel. His impeccable timing in the climax elevates
the sometimes bizarre material to moments that border comedy genius.
There's loads
of cameos to look out for - If you're quick you can spot Victoria
Beckham, David Bowie and Billy Zane, but above all it's just a good
fun movie that will have you laughing out loud, if not for the whole
film then at least for some of the fabulous scenes that are sprinkled
throughout.
Don't go expecting
brain food - this is just a nice light-hearted romp that is a pleasure
to see.
