Ali G and his Julie

Ali G gets to grips with 'me Julie'

Ali G, London's ruffest rude boy hits the big screens of Staines and the rest of the UK this weekend and this time he's lewder and cruder than ever.

Big Dan Sinclair

Sacha Baron Cohen and his alter-ego Ali G's success continues.

He's recently been courted by American legends and rap artists but can the public stomach an hour and a half of the white rapper wannabe and his antics?

The Plot
Ali (Sacha Baron Cohen) is living at home with his mother. Most of his time is spent hanging with the West Staines massive, driving his ghetto-blaster on wheels and disrespecting the East Staines posse.

One day at the youth centre in which he works (he teaches kids the language of the streets and how to 'Keep it real') he finds out it's going to be closed by the council.

Ali G mixes it with the PM
Ali G mixes it with the PM
He decides to make it his mission to save the centre by any means necessary.

His one man crusade brings him into contact with the Prime Minister's Chancellor (Charles Dance).

The Chancellor has ambitions of his own, to become the next head of parliament and sees Ali as the perfect person to embarrass the PM (Michael Gambon).

Will Ali G save the centre? Will the East Staines posse take over the ghetto? Will Ali stay faithful to his Julie?

The Review

In this film the plot is not of importance - it's just a vehicle to give Ali G a stage.

In fact, the storyline's a bit like one of those kids afternoon movies - a feel good film with a bigger than usual child saving the day.

Sacha Baron Cohen's character sprung to fame interviewing politicians and other celebrities who take themselves a bit too seriously.

Unfortunately, on the film set there is no room to 'Keep it real'.

Therefore you might wonder whether nearly ninety minutes of the same staged gags might be a bit much.

Obviously, if you don't like Ali G on TV you won't appreciate Ali G on the big screen.

However, if you like Sacha's extreme parody of everything 'non-pc' you'll continue to smile and snigger as Ali G comes to you cruder, lewder and ruder than ever.

In summary, if you're willing to ignore the silliness and are not afraid to cringe and blush in equal proportions to giggling then go see this film.
