Reading how you all miss the place prompts me to suggest that if anyone requires
a photo of a particular place in Nottingham, then mail me at Hank@hanksome.freeserve.co.uk
and I will do my best to e-mail you one. I've been looking for an excuse to get
hold of a digital camera! Arthur

Claremont Secondary
Modern School in the early 50s I moved to Nottingham with my family in
the 1950s. We lived in Mapperly Park and I attended Claremont Secondary Modern
School on the Hucknall Road. I had a dodgy start at the school. My fellow pupils
regarded me as a southern "Snob", who couldn't speak properly and said daft things
like "oh gosh! and "crikey! However, I managed to resist their efforts to civilise
me. I refused for example to say "wAter", preffering to use the more snobby "worter".
After I had survived a couple of punch-ups in the Yard, and mastermind a raid
on some local Lock-up garages, they accepted me as OK , albeit a little odd, and
I never looked back! I have so many happy memories from that time; Gilbert and
Sullivan Operas, with Leo Mcgivern, who gave me a love for music; The Victoria
Swimming Club, where I learned to love sport; The Three Tuns, where I learned
to drink Mild Beer, avoid Charlie and Pete and not much else; the Coffee Bar near
the Playhouse, where I met my first girlfriend; Goose Fair, where I was sick from
too many peas and rides, and the river Trent, where I learned to row and fish.
If anybody remembers me or anything about Claremont at that time, please do get
in touch. Andy Gordon

Forest
Fields Grammar School Hi, my name is David Pugh and I left Forest Fields
Grammar School in 1966 (so I remember both "Ollie" and Mr. Hancock). I was Captain
of rugby in my last year, but in case that will give you the idea that I was a
complete jock, I must add that I sang lead tenor in one of Mr. Hancock's Gilbert
and Sullivan productions (The Tower of London?). Iwas also a member of a club
run from a church near the Forest by a pathologist ("Doc") and assisted by a fervant
evangelist - Mr. Crowther. We (the boys) submitted to the evangelism primarily
because we were in love with its other activity, climbing in Derbyshire and the
Lakes. I now live in Denmark, and have for the last 20 years, where I am employed
as the Webmaster for the Society of Danish Engineers - www.ida.dk I would be very
happy to hear from anybody who remembers me but especially if they played rugby,
sang in the opera or climbed with me. David

I am fifty and come from the Medda's (meadows)in Nottingham. I have been living
in Australia for 34 years and love the lifestyle, but I am writing for my mum,
Jean Nutter (formerly Jean Lang, now 71 years of age). Mum is very much a Nottingham
person, despite the many years she has spent in and out of Australia. Dad passed
away a few years ago and mum is very homesick for the "old country" and people
that she can relate to. I have made her a Website at http://members.dodo.net.au/jean-lang/index.htm
and would appreciate if anybody would contact her and say hello. She would would
love it. I am trying to give her a hobby and an interest that she can relate to
and make her happy. It is the least I can do to an old lady who just loves her
home town and country. Besides, SHE IS MY MUM !!! Thank you very very much Regards

I attended Padstow in the early 60's and went to Henry Junior and Infant schools.
Mr. Bond was our headmaster till I was in the second year. Mr. Thomas was still
there when I left in 1965. Actually he retired from Padstow a few years back.
Padstow school was pulled down last year. It looks sad not to see it on Sunrise
Hill anymore. Where did you live on Bestwood Est. I lived on Leybourne and then
on Gainsford. I am still in touch with a friend of mine Bryan Cox who used to
live on Leybourne. I live in Chicago, Ill. U.S. now. I moved here in 1966 for
a year and then full time since 1970. I visit often to the UK because all my family
is still there. They also visit me here. I still know a number of people on the

would love to hear from anyone who can tell me anything about old friends called
Cicely Pearson, who lived in Netherfield, and Leaphia Hills who lived in Carlton(I
think) and were, like me, educated at Newark Girls' High School in the late 40s.
Miss Dibb was the principal. I was also a NGHS girl until I moved to Westbridgford
Grammar. We were all Sea Rangers in SRS Gypsy. I think Cicely became a school
teacher and Leaphia became a nurse. My family moved to Dorset and I lost contact
with them. I married and have lived in New Zealand since 1956 but am in the UK
for a couple of years. I have visited Nottingham on many occasions but had no
luck in finding either of these friends so, now that I have this site, I am hopeful
