Black History
Month in the millennium year is a special occasion as it provides
us with the unique opportunity to look back over a century of Black
or African peoples' endeavours and achievements.
These celebrations
are not restricted to our urban centres but to many African Caribbean
communities across the county.
They remind
us of the need for historical continuity to restore a sense of balance
and self pride, according to our well-known adage: "without
knowledge of our history we cannot make sense of the present nor
influence the future.
It is because
the history of young people of African Caribbean descent has been
undervalued or excluded that this month of Black historical and
cultural activities are so important.
These publicly
acknowledged events are crucial to allow Black young persons to
embrace their heritage and claim inheritance: something other groups
take for granted.
If you have
something to say about "The Journey", you can take part
by tuning into 成人论坛 local radio stations in the East Midlands from
8-9pm on October 12th 2000 and taking part in an East Midlands "Roots"
special called Whose Culture?
