Us5

by Ouch Team

24th November 2009

Ouch! presents Us 5, an accessible interactive video; five contemporary dramas, workshopped by people with learning disabilities.
Us 5 featuring Diamond, Phoebe, Spock, Spudnik and Will
Commissioned by ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Future Media & Technology, and created by Gamelab London, Us5 shows people with learning difficulties faced with real-life dilemmas in five video stories. Decision-making tools support users in making big choices for the characters and supports them in thinking through what they might do in the same circumstances, and what the consequences might be.

You can find more information on the story behind the creation of the videos on the .

Notes on accessibility and inclusion

While Us5 has been designed mostly for use by people with learning difficulties, it has other features such as Audio Description and subtitles, to make it broadly accessible.

The video navigation and decision making interfaces are all keyboard and switch accessible, and should work with most screenreaders. And it uses vis-caps - an innovative idea for getting across the gist of a scene in simple cartoon-like pictures rather than subtitles.

Note: Users of some Screenreaders will need to enable the 'invisible cursor’ (for Jaws) or 'WE cursor’ (for Window-Eyes) to interact with Us5. To find out how to use these features, refer to your screenreader's own built-in help or manual.
