She’ll be bringing you news of the county’s best events, shows, and creative bods over the summer. Hi – I’m Rachel, I’m 23, and I’m going to be your girl on the ground at the county’s best events and shows this summer. I’m really looking forward to being a Blastee – I’ve always had the bug for broadcasting. Probably just because I like to talk a lot. When I’m not wearing my Blast hat, I tend to be searching for any excuse to shimmy around on a dance floor. This year I got a bit over-eager and did a load of classes, from streetdance (to say I was unconvincing would be too flattering) to ballroom (most common complaint from my partner: ‘stop leading!’) Getting to Know OxfordMy first experience of Oxford was doing a postgrad course in Russian and Eastern European studies. It sounds quite intense, but it basically means I can say ‘deep-fried cheese’ in Czech. The arts scene here is brilliant; there seem to be so many talented people in the city. My favourite were a couple of drummers who used to busk on Cornmarket Street at the weekend. Martin Reeves AKA DJ Krafty Kuts As your Blast reporter, I want to dig out some new artists, and find out about projects that are a bit different. At the moment I’m really into music that messes around with different styles. Quantic’s heading up my ‘most-played’ list – it’s part seventies-inspired funk, part broken beats. Krafty Kuts is amazing too, because he can remix anything and make it sound good. I’d love to find someone similar in Oxford. Be my boss!If there’s anything you think I’m missing or want me to cover, or you just want to say hello (or tell me to shut up), then drop me a line at rachel.tandy@bbc.co.uk. In the meantime, just sit back and enjoy! Quick Fire RoundI can’t live without: stilettos, my iPod, fruit smoothies, making lists, sarcasm, a good mojito Words that are missing from my vocabulary: quiet, early, slower, boundaries Most likely to be found: spending all night on the dance floor The best thing about Oxford is: Punting I quite often say: PANTS last updated: 23/07/2008 at 13:11 You are in: Oxford > Blast > Introducing...your new ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ blast arts reporter |
