Blenheim Palace is a World Heritage Site. It was created by Sir John Vanbrugh as the nation's gift to John Churchill, the first Duke of Marlborough, for his victory at the Battle of Blenheim in 1704. The palace - birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill - looks down a long drive that stretches away beyond its elaborate iron gates to a vast stone bridge over the lake. There is a charge to enter the park through the main entrance, but several public footpaths cross the estate, giving free access. |
