The
Oxford Playhouse has a reputation for being one of Britain's leading
theatres.
Founded
in 1920, it has been associated with the launch of many careers
and productions.
Today the Playhouse is one of the country's most successful
presenting theatres.
We
have a close relationship with a number of high calibre theatre
companies and producers in order to produce a wide range of
theatre productions.

as well as future talents, such as politicians, Shirley Williams,
Nigel Lawson, director John Schlesinger and writers Alan Bennett
and Christopher Hampton.
The
Oxford Playhouse offers a rich programme of drama, dance, music,
music theatre and children's theatre. It also is taking an active
role in producing, launching and commissioning new work.
The
auditorium is quite intimate, although seating 600, and offers good
sight lines, comfortable seats and a "traditional setting".

School
students are encouraged to talk with actors, participate in workshops
and ideally become future theatre goers.
The
theatre's policy now is to reflect the breadth of the local community
by offering two shows a year dedicated to younger people. The long-term
strategy is to address the needs of young people and to get more
creative work on the stage.
