Magazines ABC Highlights
The
ABC figures for Jul to Dec 2001 have revealed:
Overall
Total circulation of 成人论坛 titles is up 2.3% year on year (to 4,134,861).
成人论坛 Magazines remains the third largest magazine publisher and out-performed
both the number one and number two publishers: IPC up 0.3% yoy and
Emap down 1.9% yoy.
TV
Listings
Whilst the market declined 1.3% period on period, Radio Times maintained
circulation at 1.2m. Year on year, Radio Times out-performed TV
Times (down 9.0%) and TV Quick (down 12.6%). The market declined
3.3% yoy with the Radio Times only slightly behind (down 5.0%) and
it retains an impressive 24% market share. The sector's only year
on year gainer was TV Choice (up 7.0%) - despite this, Radio Times
still sells over 53% more copies than TV Choice (1.2m vs 0.8m).
Food
成人论坛 Good Food has recorded its third successive increase gaining
7.0% yoy and 3.8% pop. In a market which has declined by 4.1% yoy
this is an exceptionally strong performance.
Women's
The women's market remains volatile - although eve is down pop (-7.8%)
it is not alone: losses yoy include Marie Claire (down 4.6%), Woman
& Home (down 6.1%), Elle (down 6.0%), Vogue (down 3.7%), She
(down 17.4%), Harpers & Queen (down 1.7%) and Tatler (down 0.1%).
This market's phenomenal yoy growth of 23.3% is almost entirely
accounted for by the three new launches - eve, Glamour and In Style.
Motoring
成人论坛 Top Gear remains the market leader with a share of 24% and a
circulation of 150k. All titles in this sector (apart from the small
Evo) saw circulations fall both yoy and pop.
Gardening
成人论坛 Magazines' two titles, 成人论坛 Gardeners' World (down just 3.3%
yoy) retains a 36% share of the market, with the stylish Gardens
Illustrated (up 4% yoy) taking a 4% share. Only the RHS free title,
The Garden, has seen increases both yoy and pop, while all other
competitive titles have seen decline yoy (the key comparison in
this seasonal market) or remained flat. Emap's Garden Answers has
seen a dramatic decline in circulation, falling by 21.3% yoy and
33.5% pop, taking the title to a new low of 71,613, 42.8% of which
are accounted for subscriptions. Garden News has dropped by 5.4%
yoy to a low of 56,854, the lowest for over five years.
