Worldwide Learning joins forces with IDeA on Liveability
Are
you happy with the quality of your environment? What does your area
look like? How could you improve it? These are some of the important
questions raised by those working in local government, keen to improve
the areas we live in. Such questions are often summed up by the
term 'liveability', or the 'liveability agenda'.
The
Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) and 成人论坛 Worldwide Learning
have teamed-up to produce The Liveability Challenge - a new e-learning
tool which aims to introduce local government managers and elected
members to the subject of liveability challenges. This 15 minute
e-learning programme gives access to information about the liveability
agenda and also gives an overview of how the IDeA defines liveability,
as well as identifying key issues and obstacles that need to be
tackled if councils are to improve public spaces and the quality
of peoples' everyday lives.
The
module can be accessed at ,
and is offered as part of the IDeA's flagship e-learning service,
learning pool, which brings authorities together to create and access
e-learning for local government and share existing resources. It
can also be found on the IDeA Knowledge website from 12 September,
which is already accessed by some 30,000 people nationally.
The
Liveability Challenge is made up of three units. Informer uses text,
graphics and animated images to introduce the concept of Liveability.
Explorer is a simulated messaging service that invites users to
join a discussion of Liveability issues. Evaluator examines the
obstacles that councils must overcome to implement Liveability initiatives
and presents a range of solutions. Together, they highlight the
importance of building a culture of co-operation across departments,
community groups, businesses and voluntary organisations.
Another
unique element of this project is its interactive component - encouraging
users to offer their feedback on the pilot module to the designers.
If the project is deemed successful, other subject areas may be
undertaken by the IDeA and 成人论坛 Worldwide Learning.
Martin
Horton, Director of IDeA Knowledge and Learning said, "The
quality of the area we live in - its cleanliness and safety is often
the main factor influencing our perception of the quality of local
government. We are very pleased to be working with the 成人论坛 to create
this innovative approach to helping councils improve performance
on liveability issues."
Jonathan
Drake, Director of Adult Learning, 成人论坛 Worldwide said, "This
is a great example of how 成人论坛 Worldwide Learning exploits its expertise
in media production and learning design to deliver appropriate and
effective solutions. This innovative tool adds to our expanding
range of custom and generic digital learning solutions."
Notes
to Editors: The
Liveability Challenge is the first module based on the REACT content-authoring
system (Rapid E-learning Authoring Communication Tool), developed
by 成人论坛 Worldwide Learning. REACT will enable the IDeA Learning pool
team to create and deliver information on issues that affect local
government in a timely, cost effective and engaging way. It is visually
engaging and includes some new, innovative approaches such as simulated
messaging with experts.
