She will be responsible for commissioning Newshour, The World Today and other flagship programmes in English on 成人论坛 World Service.

Phil Harding, Director of the English Network and News at the World Service, said: "I am delighted that someone of such experience, editorial judgement and flair is joining the World Service team at such a crucial time for world events.

"Audiences across the globe are turning to the 成人论坛 in increasing numbers for its wide-ranging, authoritative and impartial news.

"Under Anne's leadership, that service will continue to be in good hands."

Anne was born in Canada and has lived in England for the past 25 years.

She joined the 成人论坛 in 1987 after working as a journalist in Canada and then with CBC's London Bureau.

Anne became Editor of The World Tonight on 成人论坛 Radio 4 in 1992 and, later, Executive Editor, Radio 4 Daily Current Affairs.

She also spent more than a year at 成人论坛 World Service as head of Weekly Current Affairs.

She has worked on numerous documentary and special programmes both for Radio 4 and 成人论坛 World Service.

The most recent was the international co-production with radio stations across the United States on the first anniversary of the 9/11 attack.

She will take up her new role at 成人论坛 World Service shortly.

She takes over John Renner's role whilst he oversees plans for the World Service's move to broadcasting House in 2007.
